Sage has been burned in cleansing rituals of all kinds for centuries, to rid spaces of any stagnant and/or negative energies. Scientifically, burning sage kills bacteria and releases negative ions, to improve the purity of the air in your space.

How to use your sage smudge stick...

Open the windows and doors of the space you are cleansing to get the air and energy flowing.

Light the end of your sage wand over a candle. Blow out the flames so that the sage is smoldering but not alight. Walk around your space with the sage and direct its smoke into any stagnant corners, and around doorways and windows. The most important thing is the air and energy flow - make sure windows are open and you are intentionally moving the unwanted energy out of your space. You may want to say a mantra or use sound to add to the ceremony. Work intuitively and with positive intention.

When you are finished, put your smudge stick out by dipping it into a shallow pool of water. Make sure it's out really well or it will continue to smolder on the inside. Once it dries you can use it again. You'll get a lot of uses out of one stick.

Light your sage as often as you feel inclined to - some people smudge their homes with the cycles of the moon, the changing of the seasons, or when a big change or event is happening. You should always smudge if you feel any neativity or bad feeling around you or in your space. It's also great to smudge when you move into a new home, to cleanse the space ready for your own energy.
